5 Ways a Travel Advisor Can Uplevel Your Next Trip

Q: “Why Should I Work With a Travel Advisor?”

A: We don’t just have one way a travel advisor can take a trip from good to spectacular, we have five! Grab a cup of coffee and study up on #5 to #1, then reach out to Undiscovered Sunsets to design your next adventure.

5. We're here to expand your horizons. There's nothing we enjoy more than a call to spin the globe and talk about all the possibilities for your next trip. While we can certainly dive right in if you know exactly where you'd like to visit next, we are sometimes even more excited when we get to brainstorm and decide together! This often brings up many destinations and styles of travel that may not have otherwise been considered. Knowing the time of year you're interested to travel, total number of travel days, and top interest areas or hobbies will help us narrow in on some exciting options just for you.

4. We take our research seriously. Our knowledge is compounded by the combined travels and experiences of our team. This year, Adrianne and Whitney attended Virtuoso Travel Week, Whitney traveled to Amsterdam, along the Danube on a river cruise, to Slovenia, and she just returned from a two-week scouting trip to Botswana and Zimbabwe. Laurie just returned from Israel, Jordan, Cairo, and Dubai and will be heading to Guatemala and Morocco soon. Phew!

3. We get to know you and your travel style. No cookie cutter itineraries here! While we'll most certainly recommend a visit to the Eiffel Tower and a cruise down the Seine for any first time visitor to Paris, the similarities from one itinerary to the next stop there. We look forward to getting to know you, your preferences, and your travel style so that we can design your dream vacation, and we also know that every trip is different. So even if we already know you well, it's still important for us to know how you're envisioning this particular trip—and we enjoy learning more about you and your dreams! The personalization may come in the hotels that we recommend, the specific tours and experiences that we think you'll love, right down to the specific guide that we request, based on what we know regarding your personality and interests. 2. We can smooth out those unpredictable speed bumps that inevitably happen while traveling. A last-minute flight cancellation? A transfer that didn't show? A tour or an experience that didn't quite go as planned? While we take many steps along the way to proactively avoid these adventures as much as possible, they will happen. And when they do, rather than stress, take a deep breath, text, email, or call us, and while we sort things out, order a drink, go grab lunch, return to your sunbathing...just continue doing what it is you enjoy most on vacation while we work our magic.

1. We can take a trip from lovely to life-changing. While there are certainly some out-of-this-world, over the top hotels, dining experiences, and “wow!” moments that we can work into your itinerary, it’s all about the small details that really take our trips over-the-top. When designing an itinerary, we propose very specific room categories in a hotel because we know what will offer the best experience. While there might be 352 different cooking classes we could offer in Rome, there's likely just one or two that we will suggest based on what we know about you and your travel companions. And when focusing on the overall pace of your travels, we keep a close eye on how much or how little we pack into each day. (When a getaway keeps you on the go but it was never too rushed, when you can enjoy a beautiful view from your hotel room each morning, and when you became friends with your private guide because a wonderful connection was formed during your time with them, these are the details that usually emit those subtle mutterings of "holy smokes, what a great trip!" over and over after returning home.)

Undiscovered Sunsets was a long time in the making, even if I myself didn’t realize it. During my time at the University of Northern Iowa, I studied abroad in New Zealand. Upon graduating, I bought a one-way ticket to France, lived with a French family and studied with classmates from Turkey, China, Russia, Germany, Italy, and everywhere in between. In 2010 I began teaching English as a foreign language. This job quickly took me to China, where English teachers were in high demand and within three years, I began working in a 5-star hotel, speaking Mandarin throughout most of my day. In total, I lived abroad for 7 years.

I consider Undiscovered Sunsets to be the perfect mélange of my personal experience traveling the world and my professional experience working in the hospitality industry.

I look forward to designing your next adventure!
